GoChatterBot Docs

Privacy and your data

Your site keeps its own copy of every conversation, under your control.

What your WordPress site keeps

Each conversation is stored in your site’s own database: the questions, answers and sources, the page it started on, the time, any rating, and, only if you turn on Visitor addresses, the visitor’s IP address and approximate location.

Your controls

  • Keep conversations for deletes old conversations daily. 0 keeps them.
  • Visitor addresses turns IP addresses and location on or off.
  • Who sees the chat can limit the chat to signed-in roles.
  • Export and Delete on the Conversations screen.

All are described in Access and privacy settings.

Sensitive details

Numbers that look like payment card or Social Security numbers are replaced before a message is saved. It’s still wise to use the Note under the message box to ask visitors not to type personal details.

What the GoChatterBot service receives

To answer, the service receives the question, the earlier messages in that conversation, the page it was asked on and the visitor’s IP address. Our Privacy Policy explains what we keep, for how long, and which providers help us run the service.

Your own privacy policy

You run the website, so mention the chatbot in your site’s privacy policy: that visitors can chat with an automated assistant, what your site keeps and for how long, and how to ask for a conversation to be deleted.
