General settings: name, messages and answers
The General tab controls what the chat says and how answers are presented.
Chat window
- Show the chat
- Show the chat button on every page of the site. Turn it off to show the chat only where you add a shortcode. Shortcodes work even when this is off.
- Name
- Shown at the top of the chat window.
- Speaks as
- A guide to this site (they, their) or Your organization (we, our): how the chatbot refers to the organization that runs the site. Answers still come only from the site.
- Welcome message
- The first message visitors see when they open the chat.
- Message box hint
- The grey hint text in the empty message box, such as “Type your question…”.
- Suggested questions
- One question per line. Tick Show them as buttons in the chat to offer them as one-tap buttons.
- Note under the message box
- A short line that stays under the message box, for example “Answers come from this website and may not be perfect.”
Notices
- AI notice
- Shown at the top of the chat before the first question, so people know they are talking to an automated assistant. Leave it blank for none.
Answers
- Source links
- The most links shown under an answer.
- Abbreviations
- One per line, as
abbreviation = meaning. A short question that matches one is expanded before searching. Matching ignores case.

Click Save changes at the bottom of the tab. Changes show on your site straight away.
