Five-Step Setup Guide
Get your AI chatbot live in under 5 minutes
Create Your Account
Visit the Get Started page and create your free GoChatterBot account. Once registered, you will be able to log in and access your Dashboard.
Generate an API Key
In your Dashboard, click “Create New Key” and give it a label (e.g., “My Website”). Your API key will be displayed once — copy it and save it securely. You will not be able to see the full key again.
Install the GoChatterBot WordPress Plugin
Download the GoChatterBot plugin and upload it to your WordPress site via Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin. Activate it after installation.
Configure the Plugin
Go to GoChatterBot > Settings in your WordPress admin. Click the “Connection” tab and enter your GoChatterBot API Key. Click “Save Settings” and then “Test Connection” to verify everything works.
Customize Your Chatbot
Use the other settings tabs to customize your chatbot: General (bot name, welcome message, prompts), Content (which post types to search), and Appearance (colors, position, panel width, light/dark mode).
Troubleshooting
Solutions to common issues
Bot says “API key not configured”
Make sure you have entered the API key in the Connection tab. Check that you copied the full key without any extra spaces.
Bot returns no results
Check the Content tab to ensure the right post types are selected. Make sure you have published content on your site. Try asking a question about existing content.
Connection test fails
Verify that your API key is active (not revoked) in your Dashboard. Check that your site can reach external URLs.
Shortcode Usage
You can embed the chatbot in any page or post using the
shortcode. The floating widget is enabled by default on all pages.
