What Should an AI Chatbot for WordPress Cost?

The pricing models you’ll meet, the costs that sit outside the price tag, and a simple method for estimating how many chatbot replies your site needs each month.

AI chatbot pricing is hard to compare. One product charges per conversation, another per seat, another per “message credit”, and the plan names rarely tell you what you’ll actually pay once visitors start asking questions. This guide explains the common models, the costs that don’t show up on a pricing page, and a straightforward way to estimate what your WordPress site needs.

GoChatterBot’s own prices, at a glance: the Starter plan is free (1 website, 100 replies a month), Growth costs $39 a month (1 website, 3,000 replies), Pro costs $199 a month (5 websites, 50,000 replies), and Enterprise starts at $499 a month. Details are on our Pricing page.

We make GoChatterBot, so we’ll use our own pricing as the worked example below. The method works for any product.

The pricing models you’ll meet

Most website chatbots use one of these models, or a mix:

  • Per reply or per message. You pay for, or get an allowance of, a number of answers each month. Easy to reason about, because it tracks how much the chatbot is used.
  • Per seat or per agent. Common when a chatbot is part of a live-chat or help-desk product. Price rises with the number of staff logins, not visitor questions.
  • Flat monthly fee. Simple, but check what happens at the edges: many flat plans still have a fair-use limit.
  • Usage-based credits. Charges depend on how much text is processed. Precise, but hard to predict before launch.

None of these is wrong. What matters is whether you can predict your bill from numbers you already know, like your monthly visits.

GoChatterBot’s pricing, in plain terms

Plan Price Websites Chatbot replies
Starter Free 1 100 a month
Growth $39 a month 1 3,000 a month
Pro $199 a month 5 50,000 a month
Enterprise From $499 a month (custom quote) Unlimited Quoted to fit your traffic

Every plan includes the chatbot, answers from your own content with source links, and custom colours and branding. Starter has basic analytics; Growth and Pro add question trends, questions the chatbot couldn’t answer and busiest hours. Growth is for one site with real traffic; Pro is for agencies and owners of several sites. Paid plans are billed monthly through PayPal from the day you upgrade and can be cancelled any time. There is no free trial, partial months aren’t prorated, and a cancelled plan stays active until the end of the month you’ve paid for. Full details are on the pricing page and in Plans and billing.

Estimate how many replies you need

You don’t need a spreadsheet. Three numbers get you close:

  1. Monthly visits. From your analytics.
  2. The share of visits that open the chat. Unknown until you launch, so start with a low guess and check your real numbers after a month.
  3. Questions per conversation. Many conversations are a single question; some go back and forth.

Multiply them together. For example, purely as an illustration: a site with 20,000 visits a month, where 2 in every 100 visits open the chat and ask two questions on average, would need about 800 replies a month. That’s well beyond Starter’s 100 and comfortably within Growth’s 3,000.

Once the chatbot is live, stop guessing. Your gochatterbot.com dashboard shows replies used this month and the date your allowance resets, and the plugin’s Overview screen shows conversations per day.

What happens if you run out

Know this before you choose a plan, for any product. With GoChatterBot, each answer counts as one reply, and replies that fail because of a problem on our side don’t count. The meter in your dashboard turns amber as you approach your limit and red when you reach it, and we e-mail you at both points. If you do reach it, the chatbot pauses until your allowance resets, and visitors see a short “busy, please try again later” message. You can upgrade at any time to lift the limit straight away. See Replies and usage limits.

The costs that aren’t on the pricing page

The subscription is only part of the cost. When you compare products, ask about these too.

Setup time

Some chatbots need you to upload documents, write question-and-answer pairs or build conversation flows before they’re useful. A chatbot that reads your published WordPress content directly skips most of that. Installing and connecting GoChatterBot is covered in our step-by-step guide.

Keeping it up to date

If the chatbot works from a copy of your content, someone has to refresh that copy every time a page changes. Ask how updates reach the chatbot. GoChatterBot reads the live site, so an edited page counts straight away.

Mistakes

A chatbot that invents a price or a policy costs you in refunds, complaints and staff time. Answers that come only from your content, with source links, keep that risk down. Our article on grounded answers goes into detail.

Several websites

Check whether each site needs its own subscription. On GoChatterBot, Starter and Growth cover 1 website, and Pro covers 5, each with its own API key.

Questions to ask any chatbot vendor

Checklist

  • What exactly counts toward the limit: a reply, a conversation, a credit?
  • What do visitors see when the limit is reached, and does it cost extra?
  • Can I see usage during the month, and do you warn me before I run out?
  • Where do answers come from, and can the chatbot use outside information?
  • How does new or edited content reach the chatbot?
  • How do I cancel, and what happens to the month I’ve paid for?
  • Where are conversations stored, and can I delete or export them?

Starter, Growth or Pro: how to decide

A few questions settle it for most sites:

  • How many websites? Starter and Growth cover 1; Pro covers 5, each with its own key.
  • How many replies? Use the estimate above, then your real usage. Starter’s 100 replies a month suits a trial or a very quiet site; Growth’s 3,000 suits one busy site; Pro’s 50,000 is for several sites or very high traffic.
  • Do you want the deeper analytics? Unanswered questions and trends are on Growth and Pro.
  • How much support do you want? Starter and Growth include email support; Pro includes priority support.

Moving between paid plans is straightforward. Going from Growth to Pro starts Pro, and its billing, the same day and cancels Growth at that point; the unused part of the Growth month isn’t refunded. Going from Pro to Growth means cancelling Pro, keeping it to the end of the paid month, then choosing Growth. If you need more than 5 websites or a different reply volume, Enterprise starts from $499 a month as a custom quote: contact us.

Where to start

If you’re unsure, start free. Starter lets you install the chatbot on one site, test it properly and see real usage before you pay anything. When your conversations-per-day chart tells you Starter isn’t enough, upgrade from your dashboard.
